Tom Bochsler Celebrates George Hunter

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

It may seem unusual for a photographer to promote another photographer, but this has a special meaning because I have admired his work for more than 50 years. I have known of George Hunter and listened to his lectures but only met 8 years ago. Since then I have travelled to Europe on several memorable photographic trips and joined with him as he has donated his archives to various galleries and archives in Canada.

These are a few excerpts from his Blog which are fascinating. Read more on his website: www.georgehunterphotography.com

Willard Boyle and George Smith have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics for 2009.

What could that possibly have to do with a photography studio?  Why does it merit a few minutes of my time to blog on the subject?  Boyle and Smith are the inventors of a crucial piece of technology used every day in our studio.

A Christmas Card…

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

So, every year around the beginning of December thoughts of a Christmas card dance in your head! And if you are in the creative business this is no easy task. You can’t just go to the local store and pick up a box of cards. You must go into the think tank with everyone and come out with a creative result. This year the winner was John Majorossy.  His vision was to mimic the silent movies era.  A sort of Laurel and Hardy film. John and I would haul in a tree, set it up and decorate it, no easy task for a couple of dysfunctional photographers :) . Well I’m happy to say we did this video on the first take and no animals were harmed in the process. Have a look and let us know what you think.

Cars Cars and Cars!

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

As you know a few months ago we installed a 10’ x 24’ overhead soft box in our main studio. This was a big undertaking and took a lot of work from a good deal of people. My idea behind the soft box was always to be able to shoot cars. Cars have always been my passion and I want to apply that passion to my photography.
