John Major’s Vacation

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Well I am a bit late with this post. Things got a bit busy for me around here and I just didn’t get a chance to sit down!

A few weeks ago I was on vacation! Took the family up to the cottage and had a fantastic time. For the first time in about 10 years I got to have my sailboat in the water. It felt really good to be back out sailing with it. My wife Karen had never sailed before, but truth be known she was a natural! We were up at the cottage for 2 weeks and we got a chance to sail everyday, and when we were not sailing we were swimming off the boat. That is my kind of vacation.

Here are some photos of the time spent up there; it was a very relaxing 2 weeks. Now it is back to work.

Photographing Cars and Studio Modifications!

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

If you know me then you probably know that one of my passions is cars and everything car related. I love to work on them, I like to take them apart and even more I like to make them better! Well I thought that now I should start to photograph them. To this extent I have been working on a little project, one that will make shooting cars much more fun and a lot easier.

The biggest part of this project was the rather significant modifications to the studio, and the biggest modification being the construction and installation of a 9’ x 24’ soft box. This baby has 8 heads and can hold 4 power packs, which makes it great for an instant sun tan ;) . It was not the easiest project we have ever done and had to get some help from some pretty smart people for it, even an engineer. It took a lot of designing and even more building but it actually works!!

It’s a bit new to us so now I get the fun job of learning exactly how to perfect shooting with it. Shouldn’t take to long! Here are some pictures of the construction and also a few test shots that I have taken with it now that it is all installed and ready to be played with. I will have some final shots for you soon, but soon will be in at least 2 weeks since I am on vacation!

Phase P65+

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Hey everyone. Just wanted to put a quick post about a fantastic opportunity I had last week, I got to play with a Phase One P65+. All I have to say is an incredibly fantastic digital back.

For those that do not know what the P65 is, it is a 60 Mega Pixel digital back, yes that is right I said 60. It produces a whopping 175 MB file and well, it is a beautiful piece of equipment.

The shots I got with it turned out awesome and I had a great time using it. Now I just need $50,000 to buy one! So please hire us I need a new toy. I want to give a big thank you to Walter Borchenko of B3K Digital. He gave us the chance to see what the P65 is really like and I am happy to have had the chance to use it. Here is a shot I did with it. Hope you like it!

Welcome to the BPI blog

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Blogging has been around for a long time now, but it is very new to John and I. Through the blog I will try to keep you informed on what is happening here, at BPI. Such as, events, new technologies or techniques that we have perfected, like stitching files for Panoramic or HDR for image enhancement. More to come on these subjects.

Right now I am in the middle of building something that is very large and very cool. (It is a surprise so you will just have to wait.) I hope to be able to show it off in the next two or three weeks. I am very excited about it and can’t wait to share it with you all.
