Cars Cars and Cars!

Written by admin on October 21st, 2009

As you know a few months ago we installed a 10’ x 24’ overhead soft box in our main studio. This was a big undertaking and took a lot of work from a good deal of people. My idea behind the soft box was always to be able to shoot cars. Cars have always been my passion and I want to apply that passion to my photography.

The Founder of BP Imaging (1956)

Written by Tom Bochsler on September 29th, 2009

In 1956 I founded BP Imaging. Back then it was called “Tom Bochsler Photography” and since we have grown a great deal over the years. A lot of things have changed in that time too.

My first wireless receiver was a crystal set. Few know anything about them now but it was a simple ‘home built’ method for receiving radio broadcast and you had to use headphones. These days it is the norm to see iPods and ear buds almost anywhere you go. Communication has changed too over the years and now blogging appears to be the new norm. It is very new to me and I hope that I can add some interesting history to it.

John Major’s Vacation

Written by admin on September 15th, 2009

Well I am a bit late with this post. Things got a bit busy for me around here and I just didn’t get a chance to sit down!

A few weeks ago I was on vacation! Took the family up to the cottage and had a fantastic time. For the first time in about 10 years I got to have my sailboat in the water. It felt really good to be back out sailing with it. My wife Karen had never sailed before, but truth be known she was a natural! We were up at the cottage for 2 weeks and we got a chance to sail everyday, and when we were not sailing we were swimming off the boat. That is my kind of vacation.

Here are some photos of the time spent up there; it was a very relaxing 2 weeks. Now it is back to work.

Niece’s Wedding

Written by admin on September 2nd, 2009

Last weekend was a strange one for me and it took me back to my early years in photography when I would shoot weddings on the weekends. I must say it was both exciting and terrifying at the same time!

My niece was getting married, and she asked me of all the people to shoot her wedding. How can you say no to family!? Well, I was some nervous, it has been 15 years since I shot a wedding! How was I to remember everything from 15 years ago. Thankfully though, with the love of a digital world I could check things out as I went along. :)

Last week I had the challenge of stopping splash action with different fruits. What a fun project. Can’t say there is any special technique, just drop and snap and hope you get something cool. I think we did!!

Written by admin on August 20th, 2009

First off I would like to apologies for taking so long to update this. Things got pretty busy but now with John Majorossy back from vacation we have a little bit of time to breath. Recently I finished a food shoot for Clover Leaf. They came to us looking for some new shots to update their website and to go with the launch of their new Take 5 recipe campaign.

Photographing Cars and Studio Modifications!

Written by admin on August 3rd, 2009

If you know me then you probably know that one of my passions is cars and everything car related. I love to work on them, I like to take them apart and even more I like to make them better! Well I thought that now I should start to photograph them. To this extent I have been working on a little project, one that will make shooting cars much more fun and a lot easier.

The biggest part of this project was the rather significant modifications to the studio, and the biggest modification being the construction and installation of a 9’ x 24’ soft box. This baby has 8 heads and can hold 4 power packs, which makes it great for an instant sun tan ;) . It was not the easiest project we have ever done and had to get some help from some pretty smart people for it, even an engineer. It took a lot of designing and even more building but it actually works!!

It’s a bit new to us so now I get the fun job of learning exactly how to perfect shooting with it. Shouldn’t take to long! Here are some pictures of the construction and also a few test shots that I have taken with it now that it is all installed and ready to be played with. I will have some final shots for you soon, but soon will be in at least 2 weeks since I am on vacation!

Phase P65+

Written by admin on July 31st, 2009

Hey everyone. Just wanted to put a quick post about a fantastic opportunity I had last week, I got to play with a Phase One P65+. All I have to say is an incredibly fantastic digital back.

For those that do not know what the P65 is, it is a 60 Mega Pixel digital back, yes that is right I said 60. It produces a whopping 175 MB file and well, it is a beautiful piece of equipment.

The shots I got with it turned out awesome and I had a great time using it. Now I just need $50,000 to buy one! So please hire us I need a new toy. I want to give a big thank you to Walter Borchenko of B3K Digital. He gave us the chance to see what the P65 is really like and I am happy to have had the chance to use it. Here is a shot I did with it. Hope you like it!

Sony Canada Shoot

Written by admin on July 29th, 2009

Saturday was an exciting day. As you know we had Sony of Canada Ltd and the Alpha members come in and show off the new Sony Alpha A900 camera. John and I were pretty busy with 3 different studio setups. I was doing a presentation on how to photograph a beautiful Harley Davidson motorcycle while Major was demonstrating studio lighting techniques. Upstairs was the last studio setup where one of Sony’s reps was demonstrating macro photography lighting and lenses.

It was a great day. All the Alpha members had an opportunity to photograph in each studio setup. I am sure they came out with some fantastic images. We have a few that we will show off for you here. Things are busy for us this week, but Major and I will get you a little more about how this event went soon, maybe we can get some images from the Alpha members and show them off too! All in all, the event was a great success and we enjoyed having Sony and the Alpha members come in. Big thanks to everyone who participated!
